Key Features
- ✅ Excellent flexibility – Soft PVC and vinyl materials conform tightly to curved cable surfaces without lifting or wrinkling.
- ✅ Strong adhesion to low-surface-energy plastics – High-tack acrylic adhesive bonds securely to PVC, PE, and rubber cable jackets.
- ✅ Multiple label formats – Available in wrap-around (full wrap), flag (extends for easy reading), and booklet (top-side identification) styles.
- ✅ Colour-coded identification – Available in 6 standard colours for instant visual sorting of cables by function, voltage, or network segment.
- ✅ Durable print – Resin or wax/resin ribbon printing resists smearing, scratching, and moisture.
- ✅ Wide temperature range – PVC options rated to -30°C to +80°C; PET options rated to -40°C to +120°C for industrial environments.
- ✅ Custom die-cut sizes – From 6mm to 50mm width – fits cables from 1mm to 25mm diameter.
- ✅ Solvent resistant – Withstands IPA, alcohol, and industrial cleaning agents when printed with resin ribbon.
Label Format Guide – Which Style Do You Need?
Format | Description | Best For |
|---|---|---|
Wrap-around | Label wraps completely around the cable, adhesive-to-adhesive at the tail | Standard cable identification – compact, secure |
Flag | Label wraps around cable, with one end extending like a flag | Bundled cables – easy to read without separating wires |
Booklet | Multi-layer label with top-side viewing panel | Dense cable bundles – visible from above, no need to rotate |
Self-laminating | Clear tail wraps over printed area | Protection against abrasion and moisture |
Choosing the Right Format
Cable Diameter | Recommended Format |
|---|---|
< 2mm | Wrap-around (6–10mm wide) |
2–5mm | Wrap-around (10–15mm wide) |
5–10mm | Wrap-around or Flag (15–25mm wide) |
10–20mm | Flag or Booklet (25–40mm wide) |
> 20mm | Flag or Booklet (40–50mm wide) |
💡 Tip: For bundled cables, use flag or booklet labels so individual cables can be identified without separating the bundle.
Applications
- Data centres & server rooms – Labelling network cables, fibre optic patches, and power cords. Colour-coding by network segment (production, test, management).
- Industrial control panels – Marking control wires, sensor cables, and bus communication lines for fast fault-finding and maintenance.
- Telecommunications – Labelling cables in switching centres, cell towers, and distribution cabinets.
- Automotive wiring – Marking wire harnesses for navigation, communication, and cabin systems.
- Manufacturing & automation – Labelling cables on robotic systems, conveyor belts, and assembly lines.
- Building & construction – Marking electrical cables, fire alarm wiring, and communication lines.
- Shipbuilding & marine – Labelling cables exposed to moisture, vibration, and salt spray.
- Aerospace & avionics – Wire harness identification for navigation and communication systems.
Printer & Ribbon Compatibility
Recommended ribbons:
- Wax/Resin ribbon – Good for indoor cable labels, cost-effective, decent scratch resistance.
- Resin ribbon – Required for maximum durability, outdoor use, or chemical resistance.
Compatible printers:
Printer settings suggestion:
- Darkness: 20–25% for wax/resin, 25–28% for resin
- Speed: 3–5 inches per second (ips)
⚠️ Note: PVC is a soft material – avoid excessive printhead pressure to prevent indentations on the label surface. Always test on your actual cable material.
How to Choose the Right Cable Label
Step 1: Measure Your Cable Diameter
Cable Diameter | Recommended Label Width |
|---|---|
< 2mm | 6–10mm |
2–5mm | 10–15mm |
5–10mm | 15–25mm |
10–20mm | 25–40mm |
> 20mm | 40–50mm (flag style recommended) |
Step 2: Choose Your Label Format
Application | Recommended Format |
|---|---|
Single cable identification | Wrap-around |
Bundled cables (need to read individual) | Flag |
Dense cable trays | Booklet |
Outdoor / abrasive environments | Self-laminating |
Step 3: Choose Your Material
Environment | Recommended Material |
|---|---|
Indoor, clean (data centre) | PVC |
Indoor, moderate heat | PET |
Outdoor / UV exposure | PET (UV-stabilised) |
Cold storage / freezer | PET (cryo-grade) |
Chemical / oil exposure | PET + resin ribbon |
Step 4: Choose Your Colour
Application | Recommended Colour |
|---|---|
Critical / power cables | Red |
Network / data cables | Blue |
Safety / caution | Yellow |
Earth / grounding | Green |
General purpose | White |
Custom schemes | Any colour |
Step 5: Choose Pre-Printed or Printable
Option | Best For |
|---|---|
Pre-printed | High-volume users – fixed text, no printer needed |
Printable | Variable data (cable numbers, destinations, dates) |
How to Apply Cable Labels – Best Practices
Step 1: Clean the cable surface
- Remove dust, grease, and moisture with a cleaning wipe or IPA.
- A clean surface ensures maximum adhesive bonding.
Step 2: Print the label
- Use a thermal transfer printer with the correct ribbon type.
- Ensure sufficient darkness for barcode contrast.
Step 3: Apply the label
- For wrap-around labels: Start at one end, wrap firmly around cable, press adhesive-to-adhesive at the tail.
- For flag labels: Fold label in half over cable, adhesive-to-adhesive at the flag tip.
Step 4: Press firmly
- Apply pressure for 3–5 seconds to ensure full adhesive contact.
- For cold environments, warm the cable and label before application.
Step 5: Allow to set
- Adhesive bonds fully over 24 hours at room temperature.
- Avoid stressing the label immediately after application.
