Key Features

  • Aggressive solvent resistance – Withstands direct contact with acetone, toluene, MEK, ethyl acetate, xylene, and alcohols without smearing, lifting, or adhesive failure.
  • Chemical drum & container grade – Designed to remain attached for the life of the container, even when wiped with solvents or exposed to spills.
  • High print durability – Resin ribbon imprint resists fading, smudging, and chemical attack – barcodes stay scannable.
  • Permanent, aggressive adhesive – Modified acrylic adhesive bonds to low‑surface‑energy plastics (HDPE, PP), metal, glass, and painted surfaces, even with light oil or moisture.
  • Wide chemical compatibility – Also resistant to acids (dilute H₂SO₄, HCl), bases (NaOH), and common industrial cleaners.
  • UL / GHS ready – Suitable for hazard communication labels (GHS pictograms) and UL‑recognized component labeling.
  • Specialist manufacturer – Our chemical resistant labels and solvent resistant labels are formulated with premium facestock and cross‑linked adhesives, coated on precision lines for consistent performance through aggressive chemical exposure.

Applications

Use Chemical & Solvent Resistant Label for:
  • Chemical drums & IBC totes – Secondary container labels, GHS hazard labels, and batch tracking that must survive solvent wipe‑downs.
  • Laboratory reagent bottles – Labels on solvents, acids, and bases that are repeatedly handled and wiped with alcohol or acetone.
  • Paint & coating containers – Toluene, xylene, and MEK‑based products require labels that do not dissolve or lose adhesion.
  • Automotive fluids – Brake fluid, engine oil, coolant, and fuel containers where oil and chemical exposure is constant.
  • Pharmaceutical & clean room – Labels that resist IPA (isopropyl alcohol) disinfection and cleaning protocols.
For extreme low‑temperature (−196°C) applications, see our Liquid Nitrogen Label.

Printer & Ribbon Compatibility

Recommended ribbons:

  • Resin ribbon (high‑energy) – Mandatory. Wax/resin ribbons will smear or wipe off under solvent exposure.
  • Recommended: premium resin ribbons with cross‑linked formulation for maximum chemical resistance.

Compatible printers:

Most industrial thermal transfer printers from Zebra (ZT series, ZQ series), Honeywell (PD45, PM45), Sato (CL, GL), TSC (Alpha, MH). Desktop printers with high‑energy capability may work – test first.

Printer settings suggestion:

  • Darkness: 25–30% (higher than standard PET)
  • Speed: 2–4 inches per second (ips) for optimal transfer and adhesion
⚠️ Important: Always test a small batch with your specific solvent exposure and printer settings. We offer free samples for validation.

How to Choose the Right Chemical Resistant Label

As a specialist in chemical resistant labels and solvent resistant labels, we understand that not all “chemical‑grade” labels perform equally. Our solvent resistant labels are formulated with premium coated PET or PI facestock and cross‑linked acrylic adhesives, engineered to maintain bond strength and legibility through direct solvent contact and repeated wipe‑downs.

1. Chemical exposure type

  • Acetone, MEK, toluene, xylene – Requires high‑performance solvent resistant labels with cross‑linked adhesive and resin ribbon
  • Alcohols (IPA, ethanol), mild acids – Standard chemical resistant labels may suffice – test first
  • Strong acids (H₂SO₄, HCl) and bases (NaOH) – Requires specialised chemical resistant labels with inert facestock

2. Material selection

  • Coated PET with solvent‑barrier layer – Recommended for most chemical drum applications; good balance of cost and performance
  • Polyimide (PI) – For extreme chemical + heat combinations (e.g., reflow + solvent exposure)
  • PP synthetic paper – For mild chemical resistance only; not for strong solvents

3. Adhesive type

  • Cross‑linked acrylic – Recommended for solvent resistant labels; maintains bond through chemical contact
  • Silicone‑based – For extreme chemical + temperature combinations

4. Printer & ribbon settings

  • Ribbon: Resin ribbon only (wax/resin will smear or wipe off)
  • Darkness: 25–30%
  • Speed: 2–4 inches per second (ips)
⚠️ Note: Always test a small batch with your specific chemicals, application method (wipe, immersion, spill), and storage conditions before full deployment.
